According to the installation methods, there are four basic styles of bathtubs available - corner, recessed, freestanding and drop-in. Traditional as well as modern bath tubs come in all four styles within these categories. Also these are present with different sizes, shapes, materials and colors. As per the drain hole present on either end of the tub, there are left-handed and right-handed versions of tubs available.
Corner Tubs
These type of tubs usually have triangular shape with two unfinished sides and a finished front. It is not necessary to have triangular shape always but it refers to any shape tub installed with one decorative side visible and at least two sides against a wall.
Recessed Tubs
It is also known as a three-wall-alcove tub. These tubs are very popular due to their efficiency, space, availability, and affordability. The alcove walls hide the other sides so it has only one decorative finish. These are also available in 72-inch long and 16-inch deep models through the standard depth is 14 inches and standard length is 60 inches. These are made up of enameled steel that is inexpensive and light weighted. But you can go for expensive enameled cast iron recesses tubs.
Freestanding Tubs
These tubs are mostly built with four legs with total finished exteriors. These types of tubs are easy to find in lightweight materials. They will be made of cast iron so it is necessary to add buttressing to the floor.
Drop-in Tubs
Drop-in tubs are mounted on a platform and are available in different styles and configurations. These are made of lightweight materials such as fiberglass or acrylic or reinforced plastic.
